Tracy Morgan Critical, Comedian Killed, in Collision With Fatigued Walmart Trucker
The serious injuries sustained by comedian Tracy Morgan, along with the death of his writer, underscore the dangers inherent in accidents between 18-wheelers and other vehicles on the road. Truckers are subject to a variety of rules which don’t apply to the rest of us , simply because the damage which can be done by a sleepy driver, or through poor rig maintenance, is potentially so much greater. As well, truckers drive many more miles and are under great pressure to get their loads to their destinations faster, even when cutting corners results in risk.
Here, the trucker who hit Morgan’s limo is alleged to have been awake for 24 hours, far in excess of what federal regulations allow. Simple common sense tells us that no one should drive anything after being awake for 24 hours, and also tells us of the heightened risk. The regulations don’t protect everyone on the road from a driver who doesn’t obey them, but law enforcement inspection of logs and driver records does result in getting at least some irresponsible drivers off the road. If you have been involved in an accident with a commercial vehicle, we’d be pleased to investigate the accident for you.
