For-profit nursing homes and their parent corporations continue to increase profits while taxpayers get stuck with the bill for abuse and neglect

In reviewing a recent online article I was shocked to learn that the nursing home industry receives more than $75 billion, yes billion, from programs like Medicare and Medicaid (in our state AHCCCS) to provide care to our elderly.  When these vulnerable persons are abused, neglected or killed as a result of poor, care many victims and their families are unable to fully recover due to mandatory arbitration, or insufficient insurance coverage. Medicare and Medicaid are often left holding the bag covering additional costs of resulting medical treatments while the corporate owners of nursing homes avoid accountability.

For example, from 2004 through 2006, “preventable patient safety errors and deaths cost Medicare $8.8 billion.  Out of 41 million Medicare patient records reviewed, 238,337 reflected ‘potentially preventable deaths.’” These numbers are simply staggering.  If you believe you or a loved one has been harmed by a for profit health care provider contact Miller Kory Rowe LLP for help.
